March 2022 Votes

Greetings everyone ,

the Archon Council decided to put several changes to the vote. You can vote on the following changes:

Unbanning Scapeshift
Adding a new rule for handling resignation by an Archon

You can had over to our Discord to cast your vote! You have time to do so until 15-Mar-2022 12:00 CET.

Here are the reasonings for the proposed changes:

Unbanning Scapeshift:
Scapeshift got banned in November 2019 for its interaction with Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and Field of the Dead.
After careful testing and reevaluation of the power level of this card, the Archon Council concludes that Scapeshift no longer is dangerous enough to warrant a place on our banlist. There are several reasons why we believe so.

  1. Since 2019 our Format and Magic itself got a lot faster and it is now harder than ever to have seven lands in play to trigger Valakut or Field of the Dead with Scapeshift right away.
  2. Searching the library has become harder with cards like Opposition Agent and triggering the lands has also become more difficult since many decks can feature Blood Moon type cards in their deck.
  3. While new lands with the mountain basic landtyp have been printed, it is still a huge cost to run those since most of them enter the battlefield tapped.
  4. Decks that could feature Scapeshift don’t see a lot of play in our current meta. We believe that Scapeshift could help those decks to become a contender in the meta again.

For these reasons we propose to unban Scapeshift in Archon.

Succesor rule in case an Archon steps down:
As some of you already know, Philipp “Gobbo” Korsmeier is stepping down from his position in the Council due to personal reasons. This means that we need to appoint a new Archon to fill in the position he leaves behind, but we currently don’t have any rules for this. Therefore, we propose to add the following rule to the Archon rules:
“Should an Archon step down from their position before finishing their term, the next highest-voted candidate from the last election will be appointed to replace them.”
